If you have Lync, you should run Windows Updates to convert it to Skype for Business. If Lync is installed, it will automatically be updated to Skype for Business when Windows Updates are installed. Before you download Skype or Lync, check to see of you have either installed.

If you have Microsoft Office 2013 installed, Skype for Business or Lync should already be installed, and you should not download the version on TechWeb.

Note: Many BU faculty and staff already have Lync installed on their BU-owned PCs.

The web cam can easily be turned on or off with a toggle control in the meeting screen. If a web cam is installed, some instructors like to begin the meeting by turning the web cam on in order to establish "presence", but then they turn the web cam off so that it isn't a distraction. Built-in speakers are fine, but an optional headset or ear buds can also be used. The VoIP option works well if you and the attendees have a computer/laptop with a built in microphone or if an external microphone is plugged into your computer/laptop.

You can set up an optional toll-free teleconference bridge, but you will be charged extra for this.

Voice communication The best option for voice communication is the integrated SfB Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) which provides free, high-quality audio.
